It has a fairly "almond" shaped toe box, which means the taper doesn't change much. If your toes are touching the end of the box and they feel squished, wide won't do you much good. FWIW, sizing up is a common solution for your problem in higher-end welted shoes.

I have the captains from thursday and the diesel boot from grant stone. The GS boots ($95 more) are far better. The leather is much thicker, stitching is a lot tighter and cleaner and the arch/heel support blows the captain out the water. Plus, the GS boots feel better after each wear while the captains have seemed to plateau over time.
