Mossberg has a smooth enough action, but you can feel the parts moving its more clunky, but it feels like it could take more punishment. If you want a 28 inch barrel you want to consider the Mossberg 500, not the 590. The 590 only has up to 20 inch barrels: it's a dedicated tactical platform. The 500 is more general purpose.
