That still exists along the bottom to some extent, but at the rear, the adapter plate seamlessly blends the upper rail for the MCX upper receiver into the overall look of the gun.

It is nice to have the easy barrel swap ability, I have both a 16" 5.56 and 16" .300 on hand, but the same can be said with an AR by just swapping uppers which you could probably buy a completed upper cheaper than an MCX barrel alone.

Seems to me that the tension pin that sigs have inside their lowers that pushes on the rear takedown pin to keep the fit tight, is pushing up too hard and causing this gap.Without the MCX upper to AR lower adapter, the recoil spring assembly is held place with about an 8th of an inch of plastic contacting the upper edge of the AR lower receiver buffer tube ring (I think SIG calls it a "spring guide").
