Hurricane Idalia, After Further Review... I love to watch FOX 8 Sports on Monday after a Saint's game where Sean Fazende reviews what plays worked and what didn't. Here's my take on reviewing Idalia. As I mentioned yesterday, NHC did a terrific job on the forecast track. Several of you have already mentioned not so good on the intensity.What Are They Waiting For... What confuses me about the thinking at the NHC is sometimes they jump on a system and quickly name it, but 12-24 hours later, it's gone. And then sometimes what clearly looks like a rotating tropical system, they are slow on the trigger. You make the call looking at this morning's satellite views.

The eastern Pacific has three systems churning with Tropical Storm Greg heading well south of Hawaii. Fernanda is a Cat. 2 (110 mph) hurricane, but it should weaken as it heads to the west. Fay will not have a lot of time to strengthen, but since it's moving over the warm Gulf stream, it could give Long Island quite a wallop.Geez, what is going on with the Tropics? The MJO is in the favorable (rising air) phase, water temps are plenty warm enough, but something is not allowing systems to explode.
