With that said, old Ithacas can be found at very inexpensive prices, I've found a few ($111 for one) and don't know if I'd buy a new one. The cut-down barrel pattern makes it a very short range gun indeed. I have decided to replace it with a 20 gauge M37, an even lighter gun and plenty big for deer. I require a short, rifle-sighted (but not rifled) barrel with an IC or MOD choke for 90% of the time. I will also get a 28", modified barrel just to have a second "field gun".
