It's one of those weapons that's a noob trap, imo. People get stuck on using the ranged attack as a crutch, while the actual katana moveset is extremely versatile and is, in tandem with the ranged attack, the key to being really skilled with it. In other words, it's a low skill floor, high skill ceiling weapon. It's still strong. Has good range, comes out really fast, and well, is a katana - (unfortunately) best weapon class in the game. It's a solid weapon to add to a mage build.
