You also only benefit from attack bonuses with offhand for your attributes, but not damage. So it does much less damage. With the Dual Wield Feat, you can dual wield any weapon, as long as they are not tagged as heavy.Unfortunately, as soon as you equip a Shield in BG3 you can no longer dual wield.
