I just had this issue with my 23 monkey. It happened at 560 miles after going about 50 mph for about 5 miles. I've seen other posts on this an know it happens on the Grom also.It has been fairly well documented that the issue is the bushing/gear second gear. This post has some pictures Engine noise 2023.

They figured out they can get away with telling customers that consuming 1 quart of oil per 1-2000 miles is "normal." If you search, you'll find that line used by nearly every manufacturer these days.Does the '17+ model Grom have a much different maintenance schedule than the previous generation Grom? I've seen this maintenance schedule posted in a few forums and it is much different than mine. Mine (2018 model) doesn't ask for a valve clearance check until 4,000 miles, whereas this one says to inspect at 600 miles.

I've never had a single engine problem doing this. My good friend always buys the high end stuff - CBR1000RR SP, R1-M, etc. He always uses this. I personally would break it in using this method while it's bone stock. Then if you do the mods your talking about, bolt them on and immediately have it dyno tuned.

It's got a chimera intake, kitaco clutch cover, and takagawa oil pump. Had all that since 500miles. Still pulls me to 60-65mph and gets 100mpg.
