A Health Savings Account (HSA) is a plan designed to help manage the rising cost of health care by allowing employees to set aside money to pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses and to save for retirement. Think of it as a personal savings account for medical expenses — unused funds will earn interest until they are withdrawn at retirement.

There are two types of Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). The first is a Health Care Flexible Spending Account, and the second is a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account. Surency also manages Health Savings Accounts for those who enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan. The plan year runs from January 1st through December 31st.Participating in a Surency Flex FSA is easy. Once employees have enrolled and set an annual election amount, that amount will be automatically deducted from their paycheck in equal increments throughout the year before they pay federal, state and FICA taxes on the designated amount.
