I recently purchased a new smart key for my 06' C230 Sport. When rec'd and tested by the dealer, the key worked fine (doors lock/unlock and trunk unlocked). The next day the key worked intermittently (for the most part didn't work). I returned to the dealer the following day and they replaced the battery, but the key still didn't work.

Check your fuel pump under the rear passenger seat, I once had the same problem where the car would crank but wouldn't start. Thought it was the CPS sensor. But infact was a faulty connection to the fuel pump. Try it, unplug the connector and look for any burnt or discoloured pins.
